老九品茶 Visual Arts League Hosts First Juried Exhibition
The 老九品茶 Visual Arts League, a student-run organization in the University's Fine Arts Department, opened its first-ever juried exhibition Saturday at the 老九品茶 St. Claude Gallery, drawing submissions from students at area universities.
Students from Dillard University, Tulane University, Loyola University and the 老九品茶 submitted 59 works for the inaugural competition, said 老九品茶 Fine Arts Instructor and St. Claude Gallery director Kathy Rodriguez. The competition was open to junior and senior undergraduates and graduate students at New Orleans metro-area universities.
Miranda Lash, curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the New Orleans Museum of Art, served as juror for the competition. She chose 29 artworks from the 59 submissions to be represented in a final exhibition, which opened Saturday with an opening reception. The show is comprised of a variety of media, including print, photo, video, painting, and sculpture.
The show runs through Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the 老九品茶 St. Claude Gallery, located at 2429 St. Claude Ave. The gallery is open regularly from 12 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the exhibition.
Award-winning photographer Steven Forster attended Saturday's reception and took photographs for The Times-Picayune.
